The Institute for Public Relations has named Bey-Ling Sha winner of the IPR Pathfinder Award. Sha, professor of public relations and acting associate dean of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts at San Diego State University, will be presented with the award as part of IPR’s 2018 Annual Distinguished Lecture & Awards Dinner at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City on November 28. The Pathfinder Award recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained contributions to the body of knowledge and practice of public relations through published research. Sha’s work has developed a theoretical framework for intercultural public relations, grounded in the importance of cultural identity for understanding organizational publics and organizations themselves. Latino PR History

The Museum of Public Relations and the Hispanic PR Association are putting on their second annual Celebration of Latino PR History event on Sept. 10 at 6 p.m. at the City University of New York’s Baruch College. Catherine Hernandez-Blades, chief brand and communications officer at Aflac, will be the program’s keynote speaker. Blades will talk about the many contributions Latinos have made to the PR profession over the years, as well as discussing her own experiences. Her presentation will be followed by a moderated panel of professionals from the HPRA. A networking reception with wine and food is included with admission. #SocialWallStreet, a financial social media-focused MeetUp hosted by the New York Chapter of PRSA, is holding an event to show communications professionals how they can catch the attention of audiences through a better use of visual design. Led by Edelman vp, executive creative producer David Isaacs, the Aug. 30 presentation will be aimed at teaching attendees how to “speak” graphic design—from color and fonts to design principles that go all the way back to medieval tapestries.
