The Museum of Public Relations is holding its 5th annual Black PR History Event on Jan. 30. The keynote speaker at the event will be former national president and CEO of the Public Relations Society of America Cheryl Procter-Rogers, who will address how the big historical moments created by African Americans in public relations can serve as a barometer of progress. Dr. Denise Hill, Assistant Professor of Strategic Communications, Elon University, will talk about the world’s only exhibition of Black PR History, “From the Civil War to Civil Rights: A Century of Social Advocacy through Public Relations.” Carmella Glover, executive director of the PRSA Foundation, will describe the newly-launched Diversity Action Alliance, a coalition of public relations leaders to accelerate progress in achieving greater diversity, equity and inclusion across the profession. NYWICI

Applications for the New York Women in Communications scholarships are being accepted until Jan. 24. Scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors, as well as undergraduate and graduate students, who intend to pursue or further a career in communications. The program is part of NYWICI’s goal of cultivating leaders in the field by providing financial support, opportunities for professional development and mentoring, and entry to a diverse community of communications professionals. Adrian Awards

The Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International’s Adrian Awards Dinner Reception and Gala is taking place Jan. 21 at the New York Marriott Marquis. The awards recognize achievements in sales and marketing for the hospitality industry, including advertising, public relations and digital marketing. This year’s Gold Adrian Award winners in the public relations categories include Laura Davidson Public Relations, Development Counsellors International, Hemsworth Communications, MMGY NJF, MMGY Myriad, The Decker/Royal Agency and The Brandman Agency. The event will also include a “futures stage,” at which industry leaders will offer their insights. The dinner reception will run from 5:30 to 7: 30 p.m, with the awards ceremony kicking off at 7:45 p.m. Tickets to the event can be purchased here.
