The USC Annenberg Center for Public Relations is hosting an April 1 event that will look at how communications professionals can leverage their role in business and society to combat the increasing level of polarization in the US. “Politics, Polarization and Purpose,” the 31st annual Kenneth Owler Smith Symposium on Public Relations, will feature a keynote address from former Obama White House spokesperson Robert Gibbs, who is now senior counsel at Bully Pulpit Interactive. There will also be a discussion led by USC Center for Public Relations director Fred Cook on measuring the impact of polarization across a variety of controversial topics, followed by a Q&A. PRSA-NY and leadership development company Red Shoe Movement are teaming up to present “The Executive Presence In The New Normal” a virtual event to be held on March 24 at 5.30 p.m. ET. The event will show how attendees can build an executive presence in today's landscape and position themselves as top candidates for leadership roles in the industry. It will begin with a fireside chat between RSM founder and CEO Mariela Dabbah and PRSA-NY board member and senior director, programming Cessie Cerrato, followed by an interactive workshop focusing on women’s empowerment and developing an executive presence in a remote professional environment. 5WPR and Black PR Girl Magic are presenting a March 24 online conversation in which women leaders in PR and media will discuss the challenges and victories they have faced on their career paths. The 3 p.m. event will be moderated by 5WPR consumer president Dara A. Busch. Featured speakers are set to include current Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi, Cosmopolitan magazine deputy editor Jen Ortiz, 5WPR senior vice president of consumer packaged goods Suejin Kim, Black PR Girl Magic Tahajah Samuels and 5WPR president of lifestyle Ashley Barton.
