Washington, D.C. legislative and public affairs firm Glover Park Group has been hired by New York health food company KIND Management Inc., for lobbying work related to agriculture, nutrition and FDA issues.

KIND manufactures a popular line of granola snack bars that place an emphasis on nutrition. The company, which was founded in 2004, sold about 460 million products in 2014 and currently employs 500.

KIND in March 2015 was served with a warning letter from The Food and Drug Administration for allegedly mislabeling some of its products and misbranding them as "healthy," and for making nutrient content claims that did not comply with Federal requirements governing the use of those claims. The FDA asserted that some of the company's products were in violation of section 403 of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.

Four Glover Park staffers will work the account, including managing director Leslie Grant, who previously served as senior advisor to USDA secretary Tom Vilsack, and was also legislative assistant to former Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD); managing director Joel Johnson, who was formerly President Bill Clinton's senior advisor for policy and communications, and also served as Daschle’s chief legislative and communications advisor; Susan Brophy, former chief of staff to Senator Timothy Wirth (D-CO) and Congressman Byron Dorgan (D-ND); and Brian Gaston, who was chief of staff to Republican Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) and policy director to House Republican Conference Chairman John Boehner (R-OH).
