Global hotel company InterContinental Hotels Group has appointed Michael Torres vice president of corporate communications for its Americas region.

In the executive communications role, Torres will be responsible for enhancing IHG’s brand and reputation in the U.S., Latin America, Canada and the Caribbean, overseeing corporate communications, marketing communications and media relations, as well as employee, crisis and issues management functions. He will serve on IHG’s Americas Regional Executive Committee and will be based in Atlanta.

Torres comes to IHG from PepsiCo, where he served as senior director of global corporate communications, providing corporate communications and reputation risk management functions for PepsiCo’s Global Research and Development Division. He also directed corporate communications, marketing and social media communications for PepsiCo’s Tropicana line of beverages, as well as its Naked Emerging Group.

Prior to PepsiCo, Torres held leadership positions at global brewing giant Anheuser-Busch and AB InBev, directing Anheuser-Busch's North America Brand/Sports & Entertainment Marketing Communications teams before leading global communications for newly merged Anheuser-Busch InBev, where he oversaw the development and execution of marketing communications strategies for more than 200 brands, global sponsorships and investor relations activities.

Torres began his communications career at FleishmanHillard.

UK-headquartered hotel giant IHG owns, manages or franchises more than 5,000 hotels in nearly 100 countries. Its brands include Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, InterContinental and Staybridge Suites.
