Financial terms of the transaction weren’t publicly disclosed.

Tembo provides strategic management, organizational design, strategy, content, partnership and coalition building to philanthropists, companies and non-profits. The agency was founded in 2015 by managing director Denielle Sachs, a McKinsey & Company veteran who was previously an APCO senior associate from 2006 to 2008.

At McKinsey & Company, Sachs served as director of social impact and led the strategic design and implementation of the management consulting firm's social impact agenda. She was later executive director of environmental services company The Blue Sphere Foundation. Earlier in her career, Sachs served as a press lead at the White House.

Tembo will henceforth be known as “The Tembo Group, An APCO Worldwide Company.” Sachs will rejoin the firm in its New York office. Tembo client director Elizabeth Duncan-Watt will also join APCO and will be based in Georgia. No other staff changes were reported.

APCO in a statement said the acquisition would bolster the PR and public affairs giant’s social impact capabilities as well as its corporate advisory and management consulting strengths.

Washington, D.C.-based APCO, ranked the No. 3 PR agency in O’Dwyer’s 2018 rankings of PR firms, accounted for more than $134 million in net fees last year.
