popsThe United Nations has cast a net for an agency to develop a PR campaign to educate Chinese citizens about pollutants like DDT and their effects.

The chemicals, known as persistent organic pollutants, or POPs, do not break down naturally and often have a harmful impact on the food chain. The UN-backed Stockholm Convention on POPs of 2001 outlines reductionss obligations for China.

The UN wants an agency to conduct a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of the threat of POPs and "foster behavior change in consumption and daily living habits." It also wants to stress achievments of the POPs program during its 10 years in China.

Propsals are due Jan. 27 through the UN Development Programme, China Country Office in Beijing. The RFP can be viewed at UNDP.org
