Amid tensions between the Obama administration and Israel, Al Jazeera America is scheduled to air on Oct. 31 "The Day Israel Attacked America," an hour-long report about the controversial 1967 Israeli Army attack on the US Navy vessel Liberty during the Six Day War.

The controversial incident saw Israeli forces attack the US ship from air and sea, killing 34 Americans and wounding 171. Israel apologized, paid restitution to the families of the deceased and the US government. The country says the attack was an accident as it mistook the ship for an Egyptian vessel.

Survivors of the attack have claimed for years that the bombing was intentional, despite official reports to the contrary.

Al Jazeera says the documentary film — slated for 10 p.m. on the Al Jazeera America channel Oct. 31 -- will reveal "the shocking truth behind a deadly Israeli attack on a US naval vessel."

The airing comes at a time of heightened tensions between the US and Israel, stoked by an Oct. 28 report in The Atlantic on the Obama administration's fury at the Jewish state over expanding settlements.
