Heather Foster, a former advisor to President Obama and the U.S. Department of Education, has joined Widmeyer Communications, where she’s been named a vice president in the agency’s education practice.

Foster joins the Finn Partners subsidiary from civic and social nonprofit My Brother’s Keeper Alliance, where she was founding partner and director of strategic partnerships. Previously she served as a public engagement advisor to the White House and an associate director of the White House Office of Public Engagement, which oversees the President’s outreach efforts with interest groups and the civil rights community. Prior to her role in that executive office unit, Foster was a policy and outreach advisor at the U.S. Department of Education.

As a vice president of Widmeyer Education, Foster will focus on PK-12 education public policy and advocacy and will play a key role in the agency’s work with the W. K. Kellogg Foundation. She’ll be based in the public policy shop’s Washington, D.C. headquarters.
