O'Dwyer's Healthcare & Medical PR MagazineThe ranking of 66 healthcare PR practices, a feature of the October O’Dwyer’s magazine, comes out at the top when searches for “healthcare PR” are made via Google.

Above the link to the O’Dwyer healthcare ranking are two paid Google AdWords.

Companies pay tens of thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands for paid positions at the top of subject categories. Those offering to pay the highest prices per click obtain the top spot. AdWord revenues were $42.5 billion in 2012 and are expected to reach $50 billion this year.

Advertisers are allowed a headline of 25 characters and two text lines of 35 characters each.

“The O’Dwyer rankings are an extremely efficient way for PR firms to draw attention to their specialty practices,” said publisher Jack O’Dwyer.

“The business community has come to trust the rankings because they are based on top pages of corporate income tax returns, W-3s which show the payroll total reported to the IRS, executive and account lists and other documentation,” he said.

Rankings have been compiled by the O’Dwyer Co. since 1970. Rankings in 12 specialized areas have been compiled since 1992—agriculture, beauty/fashion, home furnishings, entertainment/cultural, financial/IR, environmental/PA, food/beverage, healthcare, professional services, sports/leisure, technology and travel/hospitality.
