The Museum of Public Relations will host a Feb. 9 virtual event focused on the contributions of Black professionals to the field of PR. The sixth annual “Celebrating Black PR History” event is being sponsored by Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Georgia, CommPRO.biz and Muck Rack. Moderated by Diversity Action Alliance executive director Carmella Glover, the event will feature a keynote address from APCO's senior advisor for equity and justice Charlene Wheeless. Other speakers expected to participate are Elon University associate professor, strategic communication Denise Hill; chair of Elon’s school of communications Rochelle Ford; Burson Cohn & Wolfe brand strategist Sabrina Browne; and Troy Blackwell, Jr., a candidate for New York City Council and veteran of the Biden-Harris campaign and Obama White House. Cashman & Associates, a woman-owned and founded full-service lifestyle marketing and communications agency launches a small-group Masterclass program in partnership with the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. The program will feature three Masterclass sessions per year with five student enrollees per session for a 30-day curriculum of best practices training, portfolio building exercises with one-on-one feedback from C&A leadership, networking opportunities, a small-group industry leadership Q&A panel, and one-on-one mentorship with PABJ president Ernest Owens and the PABJ Board. PRSA-NY will look at how the COVID-19 pandemic and social justice movement have impacted the US sports industry at virtual event on Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. The Game Time Decision Panel will feature senior communications leaders from the MLS and NFL discussing what to expect in the year ahead. Panelists at the event include vice president of communications at Major League Soccer & Soccer United Marketing Marisabel Muñoz; New York Giants vice president of communications Corry Rush and NASCAR senior director of commercial communications Chris Tropeano.
